About the Consultant, People Practices Specialist role 

Evenings & Weekends Consulting is looking for a Consultant, People Practices Specialist to join our team. They will play a critical role in managing a range of Clients’ projects focusing on centering and advancing equity within organizational practices. This work is traditionally referred to as “human resources,” but we also seek to de-centre historical notions of people as resources to be capitalized on or extracted from.


Projects may include policy and practices reviews/audits, policy development, executive/board recruitment, organizational review, employee values, people practices action plans, other people practice-adjacent projects, and additional project management/support as needed. This position will report to a Lead Consultant. 


Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of a range of projects for assigned clients including but not limited to policy and practice reviews/audit, organizational reviews, compensation & benefit review, job evaluation, performance and development plan, equity audits, etc.

  • Act as the primary contact with assigned clients and attend on-going check-in meetings with clients

  • Attend interviews with prospective clients as needed

  • Collaborate with team members to develop people practices related resources and templates


Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks

  • HRPA certification or equivalent designation is preferred 

  • Extensive experience in overseeing and managing a range of people practices focused projects simultaneously

  • Extensive knowledge of HR legislations in Canada and/or an ability to interpret provincial HR legislations 

  • Extensive experience applying an equity lens to people and culture related policies and procedures

  • Prior experience acting as the main point of contact with Clients and building positive client relationships

  • An ability to effectively navigate different viewpoints and build consensus in, sometimes sensitive, conversations related to advancing equity with clients and partners 

  • Highly motivated self-starter with an exceptional ability to complete assignments within time constraints, deadlines and with limited oversight

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong facilitation skills both in one-on-one and group settings

  • Proficient with virtual office systems (Google Suite, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat)

  • Experience using project management tool (Asana or similar)

  • Detail-oriented and a proactive and creative problem-solver

  • Good judgment and analytical skills with a focus on attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others

  • Prior experience working in an people practices function in or with organizations from the nonprofit sector an asset


Required Qualifications & Critical Commitments 

  • A willingness to centre joy in our work together

  • An appreciation for the importance of rest, including supporting others and creating systems that help prioritize rest 

  • A commitment to liberatory frameworks

  • The legal authority to work in Canada


Salary: $75,000 plus extended health benefits (4-day work week - 32 hours per week)

Work Schedule: 4 days a week (8 hours per day including 1 hour paid lunch break) from Monday to Thursday. Some evenings/early mornings, Fridays and weekends work may be required from time to time.

Reports to: Lead Consultant

Location: Virtual (the successful applicant will be expected to have access to their own office set up but a laptop can be provided as needed). Some travel may be required from time to time.

Vacation: 4 weeks + 1-week March Break + 2-week Winter Shutdown

Wellness/Sick Days: 16 Days   Personal Days: 4 Days

Preparing for an interview takes time and labour, so we compensate candidates who interview with us at a fixed rate of $100 per interview. Questions will be provided ahead of time so candidates are able to prepare for the interview as they see fit. We expect that there will be 2 rounds of interviews for this position and recruitment process may take up to 2 months once posting closes.​
